Day 10 : Yili and Sayram Lake

Day 10 : Yili and Sayram Lake

Day 10 for us started early because we landed up in the hostel at around 4 in the morning. After crashing for a few hours we got up with a plan to visit Sayram Lake. The morning was bright and cold in Yili. The kind of days in winter that makes you feel fresh and happy. Sayram lake is one of the largest and highest alpine lakes in Xinjiang. It is a good nice 2 hour bus journey from Yili, after getting all the necessary details  about the buses from our young Hostel owner we headed to the bus station to go to Sayram.

After 2 hours we landed up in the lake which is right on the side of the Highway. When the bus driver told us that we reached were were not sure because there was hardly anything around other than the lake. After double checking with him and our GPS we got down. The scene was absolutely pristine. On one side we had this beautiful Alpine lake with all its blue waters as far as the eye can see and on the far shore of the lake there were these blue mountains covered by cloud. To our back we had these beautiful snow covered mountains which looked like its just right there across the road. Through the middle of this the highway passes as if its diving the mountains from the lake.

Our hostel on a bright winter morning. It was a very simple traditional house converted to a hostel

Sayram Lake, in its blue pristine self

Snow capped mountains on the other side. It was so silent with only the sound of the wind.

The long highway into the mountains

On our way back we had this lovely baby on our bus. So cute and lively

After a long day we headed to the night market for some food. A heaven for street food enthusiasts, you can have kebabs of all possible kinds freshly made in front of our eyes.
